The Idea behind the Blog

Many people have asked me "How was life behind the Iron Curtain? How did life change after the Wall came down? How is life in East Germany different now?". This blog tries to answer these three fundamental questions by sharing personal stories, historical accounts, historical facts, and book & movie recommendations.

This blog attempts to create a collective memory of that life and make history more accessible to people all over the world. May our stories remind us all of not taking our freedom for granted and supporting all efforts to make this world a free world.

About the Author

Born in East Germany, I now work and live in the USA. I am a contemporary witness of the life behind the curtain, the fall of the Wall in 1989, the reunification of Germany in 1990, and the new life after the Change.
